The general requirements for a citizenship applicant are as following : 1) is eighteen years of age or over Will be accounted as residence: Any day during which an applicant resided with the applicant’s spouse who at the time was a Canadian citizen and was employed outside of Canada in or with the Canadian armed forces or the federal public administration or the public service of a province Will be accounted as half a day for every day during which the person was resident in Canada before obtaining permanent residence Criminality Citizenship will not be granted if you are currently charged with an indictable offence or have been convicted of an indictable offence within the three years prior to applying. Neither will it be granted if you are on probation, on parole or in prison. Discretionary power In special cases, citizenship may be granted through the Governor in Council’s discretionary power.
